Arts in Education Mailer

I was asked to design a fold-out mailer promoting arts in education, and the update of STEM to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math). I was given some text from the Otis Report and was requested to add this in as the main copy. My idea for the mailer came from a book from my childhood, The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. I felt this book was the very idea of how people were stuck in a STEM mentality, that they forgot the creative and outside the box approach of the arts part that can contribute to a child’s education too. I illustrated a child looking up to the sky with wonder and imagination in his eyes similar to the style of The Little Prince, and I grabbed a quote from Carl Sagan that connected the ideas of STEM and how they could become stagnant without the more imaginative parts of arts.
